Please Cry

One day, I learned from a photo that my Grandma had been a military nurse in Japan during World War II. “Please Cry” is inspired by the stories of nurses, who were made to believe that it was shameful and unpatriotic to cry in the face of the horrors of war. Finally after many years they were told that it was ok to cry.
The central idea is to explore the inner transitions in women’s minds as they are forced to make quick decisions in life and death situations.The work portrays this idea through contemporary body language and music. Please Cry is created together with composer and sound artist Reiko Yamada.
