Flos Vanus – Adabana

The program focuses on two fascinating female artists from around 1600: the Japanese dancer and theater maker Izumo no Okuni and the Italian composer Isabella Leonarda. They lived in an era when women enjoyed considerable artistic freedom, before the arts became increasingly reserved for men.
The combination of baroque music and contemporary dance traces the lives of these two extraordinary personalities.
The program “Flos Vanus – Adabana” tells of the fleeting blossoms of art, of extroverted madness and spiritual asceticism, celebrating the creativity of women who were ahead of their time.

Anna Fusek was born in Prague and studied recorder, baroque violin, historical pianos, philosophy, and musicology in Rotterdam, Berlin, and Basel. She is active in early and contemporary music, music theater, and art performance. For several years, she has also been involved in composition and improvisation. Concerts and performances have taken her to Europe, Asia, the USA, South America, and Africa.

Julia Kursawe is a (baroque) cellist and composer. Her initiative led to the creation of the ensembles “Tres Morillas” – early music in Spain and “Samudra” – baroque & modern, India & Europe. Her highly successful series “ImPuls der Suite” for historical instruments and contemporary dance has been performed at venues including the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Thuringian Bach Weeks, and the Speicher Gramzow historical monument, and has toured South America. In 2024, Julia received composition commissions from the vocal ensemble Acanto and the girls’ choir of the Singakademie zu Berlin.
